A Breath of Fresh Air

Living in West Torrance has many benefits, one of which is being upwind from the Torrance Refinery. But the sights, sounds, and smells of the refinery can be a source of concern for many residents.

A new project, called “Torrance Air” for short, is intended to help alleviate some of those concerns. The project will provide a series of air quality monitoring stations in Torrance and provide near real-time information about air pollutant concentrations in and around our community. The Torrance Air project monitors local air quality by two methods an air monitoring system along the north fence-line of the Torrance Refinery, and a series of community-based air quality monitoring stations in the City of Torrance.

The project is being sponsored by the South Coast Air Quality Management District and was founded as a result of the settlement following the 2015 incident at the refinery.
